Longevity Breathing Exercises

 

In the East, proper breathing is considered to be the key to a long healthy life. The Japanese have KI breathing. The Chinese have Qi Gong breathing. In India there are many types of breathing exercises in Yoga. The specific types of breathing done in our class are tailored to the members in that class. However, in most classes Chinese Qi Gong breathing predominates.

Qi Gong breathing is normally done standing. However, the techniques can easily be adapted for being seated in a chair, if the member has challenges with balance. The Qi Gong breathing synchronizes the breathing with slow, gentle body stretching. The overall feeling is one of relaxation combined with a refreshing flow of energy. Once learned, these techniques can easily be practiced everyday at home. However, the encouragement that is available in a group class also has things to recommend it.

Qi Gong breathing is integrated into several of our class and is also taught as a standalone class.
